An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away and the Tigers Stronger So They Can Play
April was the month of Healthy Eating, and what a month it was! All throughout, primary students participated in a variety of activities to promote healthy eating habits and lifestyle.
What Are Healthy Foods?
The month started off with the “Be Caught Eating a Healthy Snack” challenge, where students were encouraged to bring their healthy snacks to school, and whoever was caught eating fruits, vegetables, yogurt, sandwiches and other healthy foods would be rewarded with a certificate. Students also learned about the different types of healthy foods, balanced diet and what an ideal lunch box can look like during their classes. They even learned where our fruits and vegetables come from, and how we can roast them or use them in fruit salads to enjoy their delicious taste!
Based on the foods they learned in class, kindergarten students were tasked with discovering healthy foods around the school campus and at San Miu supermarket. This was a fantastic way to give students the opportunity to pick healthy foods over “sometimes” foods, and to explore where they may be able to find them. After the trip, they picked up their favorite foods and had a party to enjoy them all together.
In PE Class, students played games like Banana Tag to promote a healthy lifestyle, as eating a balanced diet and practising physical activity go hand in hand. Other than exercise and developing motor skills, physical education can influence children’s habits in the long term, helping them carry out a healthy lifestyle well into adulthood.
Healthy Breakfast Picnic
Finally, to celebrate the wrap up of a great and educational month, the elementary students laid their picnic blankets on the football field and shared a healthy breakfast together while enjoying some nice fresh air. It was the perfect way to end the month and commemorate the eating habits that they had not only learned, but also adopted and shared with others around them.
Thank you to our primary teachers for their commendable efforts in turning a vital lesson on healthy eating and lifestyle into a fun-filled month full of engaging activities! We are excited to see how students carry these positive eating habits throughout their lives. Here’s to a lifetime of healthy choices!
