TIS Early Childhood Education (ECE) Programs
“Children need the freedom to appreciate the infinite resources of their hands, their eyes and their ears, the resources of forms, material, sounds, and colours.”
-Loris Malaguzzi, Founder Reggio Emilia Approach
The TIS three-year kindergarten program includes Pre-Kindergarten (PK), Junior Kindergarten (JK) and Senior Kindergarten (SK). It is Reggio Emilia Inspired and follows the Alberta Flight Curriculum (PK/JK) and the Alberta Kindergarten Framework (SK). Our program is an inquiry, project-based approach that focuses on children’s interests, and all units of inquiry align closely with our scope and sequence.
Areas of Enquiry
The Program consists of four Units of Inquiry that encourages your child’s natural curiosity and includes:
How we express ourselves
Sharing the planet
How we organise ourselves
Who we are
Hands-On Learning
The Project/Unit of Inquiry Approach intends to engage children in hands-on learning so they can work towards achieving the curriculum goals in activities that are meaningful to their development and cater to their personalized learning journeys. Therefore, this is not a simplistic theme-based program but is driven by children’s ever-changing developmental and academic needs and personal interests.
Children Learn Through Purposeful Play
We value a hands-on sensory play-based method that allows children to explore, wonder, make connections, learn together and test theories and knowledge. Learning experiences are play-based experiential learning that are purposely facilitated for children to fully engage and build upon their social/emotional learning, communication skills, science and mathematical skills while having fun! Our approach is transdisciplinary and concepts and curricular goals can be learned through conceptual units of inquiry.
Fostering Independence and Curiosity
The fundamental goal of our approach is to foster independence and intellectual curiosity and create self-directed learners. The result is that children develop the skills and attitudes of life-long learners and a love of learning that stays with them long after they have left kindergarten.
